The quest to understand the name of this wine and the wine itself is now the stuff of legend – While we are not about to reveal all, we can say that the style of the wine is a reflection of our belief that the Cape, with its Mediterranean climate, is eminently suited to blended reds. The make-up of this wine is tweaked from vintage to vintage to best reflect the season and the ancient vines of great character that are an integral part of the wine’s charm and personality.

Ormonde stand at Cape Wine 2018 South Africa’s biggest wine platform. Ormonde Private Cellar is situated on the West Coast of South Africa, where the rugged Darling hills roll and fall along the contours of a ancient granite intrusion. These molten rocks, forced from the earth to 300m above sea level, guard the Atlantic Ocean while banks of fog roll to the foot of the hills, blessing the vineyard with coolness and moisture.

Soil composition varies between deep homogeneous soils, rich in iron and organic matter and harsh glenrosa forms, derived from the granite. These deep soils provide the ideal cradle for Ormonde vines.
