Boxing star and WBF, IBF Intercontinental and WBA International bantamaweight champion Mzuvukile “Old Bones” Magwaca.
He is now learning to walk again after an operation to sort out his leg just above his knee, where an R4 rifle bullet broke his bones during a robbery. Learning to walk again does not necessarily mean that Magwaca will be able to box again.

The Covey Guest cottage in the Franschhoek valley

Surrounded by vineyards and located next door to a working winery – The Covey is situated 1.5km outside the village beneath the imposing Middagkrans Mountain.  The cottage, which is next door to the owners house, consists of a living room with galley kitchen, bedroom with king size bed and shower room.  Opening off the living room there is a private stoep and pretty walled flower garden. The cottage is comfortably furnished – 100% percale linen on the bed with feather pillows (or synthetic if you prefer) there are ceiling fans and plantation shutters on the windows. The fully equipped galley kitchen has an electric oven and gas hob, dishwasher and bar height table.  Outside on the stoep there are comfy chairs and a small table for eating al fresco, as well as a weber type BBQ. Beyond the cottage garden there is a tranquil lawn interspersed with mature trees. Use of the swimming pool is by arrangement. There are three lively but friendly dogs!

Cape Epic 2017

Cape Epic 2017

The Absa Cape Epic is an annual mountain bike stage race held in the Western Cape, South Africa. It has been accredited as hors categorie (beyond categorisation) by the Union Cycliste Internationale. First staged in 2004, the race typically covers more than 700 kilometres (435 miles), and lasts eight days – a prologue and seven stages. The Absa Cape Epic attracts elite professional mountain bikers from around the world, who compete in teams of two. To qualify for a finish, teams have to stay together for the duration of the race. The race is also open to amateurs, who enter a lottery in order to gain a slot. A total of 600 teams take part. The times taken to finish each stage are aggregated to determine the overall winning team in each category at the end of the race. The course changes every year, but the race has always taken place in the Western Cape. The Absa Cape Epic was described by Bart Brentjens, 1996 Olympic gold medallist in mountain biking and a former Absa Cape Epic winner, as the “Tour de France of mountain biking”.
The 2017 route will take riders through 691 km of Western Cape countryside and up a lot of hills: the accumulated vertical gain over the eight days will be 15 400m.

Supersoon

November 2016

This year, the full moons of October, November and December all take place when the moon is at its closest point of approach in its orbit around Earth — a so-called supermoon.

This full moon will be not only the closest and brightest supermoon of 2016 but also the largest since 1948.

Lot of fun lot of wine what else? The Chocolate Block
The quest to understand the name of this wine and the wine itself is now the stuff of legend – it’s even launched a graphic novel (see here). While we are not about to reveal all, we can say that the style of the wine is a reflection of our belief that the Cape, with its Mediterranean climate, is eminently suited to blended reds. The make-up of this wine is tweaked from vintage to vintage to best reflect the season and the ancient vines of great character that are an integral part of the wine’s charm and personality.
